CCGT contract

has secured a contract with

for mechanical, electrical and instrumentation installation at EDF’s 1,300MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power station in West Burton, Nottinghamshire.

The £100m deal includes the installation of the gas turbines, heat-recovery steam generator and balance of the plant at the CCGT power station, which is expected to be finished in 2011.

Mike Saunders, president of AMEC’s Power and Process Europe business, said: ‘This is an important contract for AMEC. EDF Energy is a highly valued customer for us in a number of business areas, including nuclear power and gas storage. This award continues to position AMEC as a leading supplier in the growing energy CCGT market.'

The plant, which is seen to be a cleaner alternative to fossil-fuel generation, will form part of EDF’s overall strategy to reduce carbon emissions from electricity production and diversify its energy generation portfolio.

Graeme Bellingham, project director for EDF Energy, said: ‘This major project for EDF Energy will supply enough power to provide for the needs of around 1.5 million homes and we are delighted that the skills and expertise of AMEC will play a key role in its development.’

AMEC will begin planning work from its Darlington offices with work scheduled to begin on site in March.
