Brammer gets Abbey Corrugated in the habit of saving energy with efficient motors

An energy seminar organised by Brammer UK, part of Europe’s leading distributor of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) products and services, has inspired a leading manufacturer of corrugated board to commit to only specifying energy-efficient EFF1 mot

EFF1 is the highest efficiency band in the current European Motor Efficiency Labelling Scheme which includes most of Europe’s major electric motor manufacturer’s.

Abbey Corrugated’s factory at Blunham in Bedfordshire produced bespoke corrugated board for customers in a wide variety of industry sectors. The number of motors on-site runs into hundreds and energy is one of Abbey’s largest business costs.

Process Improvement Manager Paul Gale, who has a specific remit to deliver energy related cost-savings in this area on an ongoing basis, was among 50 decision-makers from leading UK manufacturers attending the energy seminar at Brammer’s Centre of Excellence  in Wolverhampton. He was highly impressed by the presentation from Brammer detailing the potential energy and carbon savings to be made by replacing less efficient  motors with EFF1 energy-efficient motors.

As a result, Abbey Corrugated’s energy policy now commits the company to only using EFF1 products when replacing motors at their Blunham site. Typical savings range from £1,000 to £10,000 over a 10-year life cycle depending on the size of the motor and, with up to 20 motors being replaced at Blunham each year, major energy cost savings are being confidently predicted over the next decade.
