Swedish freight company Green Cargo has awarded Bombardier Transportation a contract to modernise 42 type Rc2 electric locomotives and 62 type T44 diesel locomotives.
The contract, worth €115m, is the largest ever vehicle modernisation contract in Sweden. Under it, Bombardier will extend the life expectancy of the assets by 15 years, allow multiple-unit operation, enhance the driver’s cab, reduce energy consumption, give higher fleet availability and reduce maintenance costs.
The project will be carried out at Bombardier’s workshops in Västeras, Sweden and Randers, Denmark, starting in June 2007, with the prototypes scheduled to be delivered later next year and the remaining units shipped over the next 6 years.
