Boeing has been awarded a contract to build a commercial satellite for ProtoStar to deliver satellite television and broadband internet throughout Asia. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 601 HP spacecraft, named ProtoStar II, is scheduled for launch in 2009. It will feature high-powered capacity and will form part of the company’s ‘constellation of geostationary satellites’.
‘With the addition of this new Boeing 601 HP satellite to its fleet, ProtoStar will provide optimised direct-to-home services across the Asia-Pacific region,’ said Howard Chambers, vice president and general manager of Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems. ‘ProtoStar II will reach billions of people in India, Indonesia, Taiwan, the Philippines and Southeast Asia.’
