Bikini warns of overexposure
Canadian swimwear catalogue Solestrom has unveiled a bikini equipped with a UV meter and an alarm that warns the wearer when she is exposed to overly strong sunlight.
Canadian swimwear catalogue Solestrom has unveiled the biggest innovation in the bikini since it first took the world by storm 60 years ago. The SmartSwim UV Smart Bikini is a smart fabric two-piece equipped with a UV meter and an alarm that warns the wearer when she is exposed to overly strong sunlight.
The UV-detecting smart fabric gives feedback to a digital UV meter integrated into the belt of the suit. The fully waterproof UV meter displays a UV index range of 00.0 to 19.9 in 0.01 steps with a bright digital LCD which is easily visible in sunlight.
The UV Index indicates the UV intensity of the sun. The higher the number, the stronger the UV intensity, and the shorter the time for damage to eyes and skin to occur.
The UV Smart Bikini is available in suitably futuristic Techno Silver Lycra, as well as more prosaic black and white. Solestrom's other products include a bikini whose decorative beading changes colour with the intensity of the sun, and a beach bag with an inbuilt solar charger for mobile phones and MP3 players.
