Power and automation technology group ABB has secured an order from Cable & Wireless to supply a utility communications system for high-voltage applications.
The contract is part of a project that involves an upgrade of Cable & Wireless’s core network and operational systems, which interconnect 410 high-voltage substations throughout the
Jens Birgersson, head of ABB’s Network Management business, a part of the company’s Power Systems division, said: ‘ABB’s communication system will provide greater control and benefits such as improved efficiency and higher reliability.
‘It will also support the safe transmission of electricity in the country.’
The contract will involve engineering, supply, cubicle assembly, installation and commissioning of the system, as well as the installation of multiplexers that combine several application signals into one optical-output signal.
