ABB has won orders worth approximately $56m for power and automation equipment to help Indian steelmaker JSW Group increase its output.
ABB is supplying a range of power and automation solutions for 2x300 megawatt (MW) power generation facilities in
JSW aims to increase its steel capacity to 6.8 million tons per annum (mtpa) from 3.8 million.
ABB will supply power products and systems including substation equipment, transformers and an electricity network management system based on supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) technology. The contract also includes protection and control systems as well as medium-voltage and low-voltage switchgear.
According to a statement, ABB’s power solutions will ensure the needs of JSW’s steel plants are met and enable surplus electricity to be fed into the 400-kilovolt (kV) grid using the control and monitoring equipment to help manage the distribution network. In addition, ABB will provide process automation for the steel plant including plate-mill drives to ensure energy efficiency and reliability across the production chain. The project will be completed in phases and end around mid-2008.
