SNCF
(Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer),
’s national railway, has notified
Alstomof an amendment to a €60 million follow-on order for 30 dual-voltage locomotives signed in December 2004.
The amendment changes the order from 30 dual-voltage locomotives to 30 triple-voltage ones, bringing the total value of the order to 78 million euros. This follow-on order is part of a contract for 300 electric locomotives signed in 1998.
From Alstom’s PRIMA range of diesel and electric locomotives, these vehicles will join the fleet of 210 freight locomotives currently being delivered to SNCF. Alstom is also supplying 400 diesel locomotives for SNCF’s freight business.
SNCF plans to use these new 3-voltage locomotives for international freight service between France, Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
The locomotives will be assembled at Alstom’s Belfort site in France and delivery will take place from January until October 2006. They will enter commercial service at the beginning of 2006.
Alstom’s sites in Tarbes, Villeurbanne, Le Creusot and Ornans, in France and Charleroi in Belgium will provide equipment for the locomotives.
