TRL
, the UK’s transport research laboratory, has been awarded a contract by
Wolverhampton City Councilfor the installation of the West Midlands Urban Traffic Control (
UTC) Major Transport Scheme.
The scheme is designed to reduce congestion in the West Midlands by combining each region's UTC centre with traffic systems operated by the police and the Highways Agency’s Regional Control Centre in Quinton.
As part of the contract, TRL will provide development and operational support using microsimulation, traffic management control and decision support tools to the Regional Control Centre operations.
TRL will work with the Department for Transport and local authorities in the West Midlands, as well as the end users and stakeholders, to ensure that each party has an understanding of the aims and objectives of the project.
