Cambridgeshire company Prism Electronics has been chosen to provide rail signalling equipment for a rapid transit system being built to support the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Cambridgeshire company Prism Electronics has provided rail signalling equipment for a rapid transit system being built to support the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The St Ives-based electronics manufacturer supplied 400 printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies to ERB South Africa, which is responsible for manufacturing signalling equipment for the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link project.

The Gautrain Link has been designed to ease congestion in South Africa’s economic centre in the run up to the World Cup.

Once completed, Gautrain will link O.R. Tambo International Airport with Pretoria and Johannesburg’s Park Station.

The PCB assemblies will control the rail signalling equipment that comprises of receivers, which incorporate Prism assemblies, and transmitters fitted to the rail track and rolling stock.

Work on the link began last year and is scheduled for completion before the start of the FIFA World Cup in 2010.
