based chemical synthesis specialist Cambridge Research Biochemicals (
CRB) is embarking on a £100,000 project to expand its production facilities.
The investment, which includes a £34,000 grant for business investment from regional development agency One North East, will go towards buying a chemical synthesiser to produce peptides for academic and industrial drug discovery research.
The apparatus will increase the volume of peptides manufactured each year and allow enhanced peptide synthesis, which can produce hundreds of peptides simultaneously on a sub-micro scale. The company will recruit two chemists to support this activity.
CRB’s customers include pharmaceutical companies Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca and the research company is seeking to increase its share in the academic sector.
