Thales UK has signed a contract to supply and install a Cat III 420 Instrument Landing System (ILS) and 415 Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) 2 at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport.
Chris Kelly, head of air traffic services for the Peel Airports Group, said: ‘Liverpool John Lennon Airport is pleased to have selected Thales UK to supply and install a new CAT III ILS/DME system that will replace the current CATII ILS for runway 27.
‘This upgrade continues the airport company’s investment in improvements in its airfield infrastructure and is a part of a programme of work to offer CAT III ILS landing operations at the airport.’
The ILS system provides pilots with information to enable guidance during descent and, with deviation information from a defined approach, path down to and along the runway surface. Similarly, DME systems provide the pilot with distance information between the aircraft and the location of the DME ground equipment.
Separately, Thales UK has signed a three-year framework agreement with The Manchester Airports Group for the provision of specialist aviation services and products to airports in The Manchester Airport Group of Companies. These include Manchester Airport, Nottingham East Midlands Airport, Bournemouth Airport and Humberside Airport.
